2. What TapTip is
TapTip is a technology service. It lets guests tip the people who serve them, and lets hospitality businesses take payments, by scanning a QR code and paying by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. The money is taken and paid out by our licensed payment partners, not by TapTip: TapTip is not a bank, does not open accounts for you, and does not keep your money as a deposit. Card details go to the payment partner and never reach TapTip.
A tip is a gratuity for the service a business gave you. It is paid to that business through our payment partner and passed on, on the business's instruction, to the member of staff you chose. Where TapTip offers it, an independent guide verified as a sole trader can receive tips directly as their own business.
3. If you tip or pay (guests)
- Tips are voluntary. You choose the amount. Before you pay, the page shows the amount, our fee, any currency conversion and what the person receives, and you can change or cancel it.
- The fee. TapTip's fee on a tip is 5% and is taken from the tip unless you choose to add it, so the person gets the whole tip. A business pays the fee on its own payments; you pay only the price shown.
- Currency. Payouts are in kwacha. If you pay in another currency, the rate is shown before you pay. Your card issuer may add its own charges.
- Receipts. You get a receipt page after paying. Keep its link or reference for any question.
- Mistakes and refunds are handled under our refunds and complaints policy. For a business's goods or services, the business is responsible for refunds, as it would be for a cash sale.
- Only pay with a card or account you are allowed to use.
4. If you receive tips (guides and staff)
- Who can join. You must be 18 or over, live or work in Zambia, and have a mobile money number in your own name. One account per person.
- Your details must be true and kept up to date. Payout numbers can only be changed with a code sent to the new number, a message to the old one and a 24-hour wait, to protect you.
- Your badge is yours alone. Don't let anyone else use it. If it is lost or copied, replace it in the app straight away; the old one stops working.
- Payouts. After a short safety hold, tips are paid to your mobile money number, usually the same day. The hold and a daily limit depend on your trust level, shown in the app. A tip that looks unusual can be held for longer while a person on our team checks it.
- Reversals. If a guest's bank reverses a payment because it was fraudulent or a mistake, the tip is not owed to you. If it has already been paid out, we may take it from your next tips, and we will tell you why.
- Taxes on what you receive are your responsibility.
- Not allowed: pressuring guests to tip, asking for tips with someone else's badge, paying yourself or arranging fake tips, or using TapTip to move money for any other purpose.
5. If you run a business on TapTip
- Authority. You confirm that you may act for the business and are 18 or over.
- Verification. Before the business takes real payments, its owner provides its PACRA certificate, TPIN certificate and NRC for checking, as our payment partners and the law require. Until then the business works in test mode.
- You are the seller. Payments on your counter QR or payment links are for your own goods and services, described honestly. You handle your customers' questions, refunds and receipts for what you sell. Tips to your staff are gratuities for your service.
- Tips go to your staff. A tip for a named member of your team is passed on to them in full, less only TapTip's fee. You may not keep or redirect it.
- Fees. TapTip's fee on a business payment is 4%, paid by the business and deducted before payout. Fees are always shown in the app; we give 30 days' notice before raising them.
- Payouts go to the business's mobile money number or bank account after a short safety hold. Changing them needs a code and a 24-hour wait, and the owner and managers are told.
- Your team. You choose who joins and their role. Owners and managers can see the team's tips; staff members' own details stay theirs.
- Records. Statements and exports are in the app. Keeping your own tax records is your responsibility.
6. Safety holds, limits and investigations
To protect everyone, we can hold a payout, lower a limit, or pause an account while we check unusual activity, and we can share what is needed with our payment partners and, where the law requires, with the authorities. We tell you when we do this, unless the law does not allow it, and a person on our team reviews it. A hold never takes money that is yours.
7. Closing an account
You can close your account at any time in Settings › Your data, once nothing is waiting to be paid out. We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, is used for fraud, or where the law or our payment partners require it; money owed to you is still paid out unless the law prevents it. Records we must keep by law are kept as our privacy notice says.
8. Using TapTip fairly
- Don't try to break, overload or get around TapTip's security, or use it for anything unlawful.
- The TapTip name, logo, app and site belong to TAPTIP INVESTMENT LTD. Your photo and your business's logo stay yours; you let us show them where TapTip needs to.
9. Our responsibility
We work to keep TapTip available, accurate and safe, but we cannot promise it will never be interrupted. As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for losses caused by our payment partners, mobile networks or banks, by events outside our control, or by information you gave us that was wrong. Nothing in these terms limits a responsibility, or a right you have as a consumer, that the law does not allow to be limited.
10. Changes to these terms
We will update this page and its date when the terms change. If a change affects your rights or costs, we will tell you at least 30 days before it applies, and the app will ask you to agree again.
11. Complaints
Tell us first: our refunds and complaints policy explains how and how fast we reply. If we can't resolve it, you can go to the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, the Bank of Zambia for payment matters, or the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner for personal data.
12. Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Zambia, and the courts of Zambia can decide any dispute. If any part of them can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
